Legislation related to collision repair, auto insurance under review in states around the country

In Illinois earlier this year, a House committee of lawmakers gave a do-pass recommendation to an interesting bill that would definitely impact the collision repair industry in that state. The bill (HB 5559) would give policyholders a third choice when their vehicle is declared a total loss: vehicle replacement, a cash settlement for its pre-loss value, or compensation to cover the cost of repairs to make the vehicle safe to drive.

Whether the legislation continues to move forward through the Illinois legislature or not, it’s a good example of why it’s worthwhile for shops to keep an eye on what’s happening at their state capitol.
